Port of Torshavn
Being the port of the Capital, the port of Tórshavn is by far the largest and busiest harbour in the Faroe Islands. As a thriving port with a truly international outlook, the port of Tórshavn offers an unrivalled concentration of quality maritime services and expertise. The port of Tórshavn has focused on the Faroese container traffic and roll-on/roll-off ferry traffic and has experienced an increase in calls from cruise ships as well.
Furthermore Tórshavn has enjoyed success as a base for the North Atlantic fishing fleet, partly due to its key geographical location, but mostly because of its cluster of competent service businesses, ready to meet your every demand.
Several smaller neighbouring municipalities have been incorporated into the capital, and as a result of the amalga-mation, the operating area of the port of Tórshavn has increased significantly and now also includes harbour facilities at Sund, Kollafjørður and Oyrareingir. The four harbour areas directly controlled by the port of Tórshavn are the best served in the Faroe Islands and are the only Faroese harbours to be manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This gives us a great deal of flexibility and allows us to find the best solutions for our customers. Additionally we have yet to experience a close-down due to weather conditions.
A large expansion of the facilities in Torshavn has started. The expansion will give us an additional 875 metres of quay with a minimum depth of 15 metres. Once completed, it will increase the harbour area with 95.000 m2 and will thus give our existing – and potential new– customers much better opportunity to develop and to optimize their businesses.
